The Lucy Lester Willet Memorial Library offers a variety of services to support student research and the college curriculum. The library provides extensive electronic and print resources, including more than 100 databases supporting a full range of curricular programs. Many of these are available through GALILEO. Students can access library collections of other academic libraries in the state, in addition to being able to borrow materials from libraries nationally via interlibrary loan. Professional librarians offer reference and research assistance, workshops and other learning opportunities designed to foster information-literacy skills for academic success and life-long learning.

About Us

This three-story Georgian brick building was constructed in 1968 and dedicated to the memory of Lucy Lester Willet, class of 1881. The main entrance is on the second floor of the library, which houses the reference collection, periodicals, popular DVDs, and computers to access the library catalogue and electronic databases. The first and third floors contain the collection of circulating materials, classrooms and study rooms, and the Media Room.

Mission

The mission of the Willet Memorial Library is to provide resources and services to support the mission of Wesleyan College. The library strives to fulfill this mission by collaborating with administrators, faculty and students to support the curriculum and the four cornerstones of the College: academics, women, faith, and community. The library's programs are designed to empower students to become proficient in information and digital fluencies to build upon the foundation of a liberal arts education for the purpose of lifelong personal, intellectual and professional growth.

GOALS WILLET MEMORIAL LIBRARY
The Library is committed to achieving the following goals in support of this mission:

  • To provide a physical and virtual environment that promotes study, encourages scholarly pursuits, and fosters the academic excellence that is a primary commitment of the College.
  • To carry out an instructional program that will foster students' digital and information fluencies so they may accomplish their academic goals and have the necessary skills to support lifelong learning.
  • To acquire, organize, manage, and preserve appropriate resources for the instructional and general intellectual needs of the College.
  • To recognize the importance of being the first college in the world to grant degrees to women by preserving the archival history of the college, creating repositories for the college's historical artifacts, and providing appropriate access to students, scholars and the community.
